Nollywood actress, Omotola Jalade-Ekehinde has put smiles on the faces of 20 widows in Lagos. The widows were adjudged to have shown strong courage amid limitation.

The gesture was made during an event tagged: The 20 Widows Makeover, held in honour of the actress’ late mother, Mrs Shola Jalade. It was put together as a means of encouraging widows who have strived to keep their home front in order, despite the demise of their spouses. One of the beneficiaries was Mrs Elizabeth Fayemi, widow of the late Kayode Fayemi, celebrity reporter and P.M.NEWS columnist.
According to the actress, the event was targeted at pampering these women and helping to boost their confidence and self esteem by treating them to a makeover session at some of Lagos beauty parlours and lifestyle shops.
Showbiz Trends learnt that the widows were treated to first class treatment and beauty regime which comprised a total makeover starting with facials and massage at Fresh Look and H & H Spas.
Next, the women had their hair done by celebrity hairstylist Ugo Igbokwe at Make Me, while they were completely made-up at House of Tara.
The women were later treated to a shopping spree as they picked different designer clothes from EveryWoman boutique. Done with the shopping, the women were moved to Anthony Village, Lagos, studio of famed fashion photographer, Kelechi Amadi Obi for a photo shoot session and their complete transformation into stunning beauties.
“It was lovely and fulfilling to see the entire transformation of these women. I am really grateful to all that helped to see this happen. This is something I wished I or someone else had done for my mother,” Omotola said about the programme, which is one of many projects under her Omotola Youth Empowerment Programme (OYEP).
She added that she was satisfied not giving out money to these women because, “if you give these women money, they would spend it on their kids.”
“This time it’s about them. When my mother was alive, she was a very beautiful woman. But because of all her struggles after the death of our dad, she neglected her personal needs so that she could care for us. She didn’t get to enjoy all these things like going to the spa, going shopping. So this is one thing I would have loved to do for mum who was a widow for 10 years,” she explained.
Aside the treats, the widows also went home with various gifts such as sets of designer pots, cooking utensils and a bag of rice each. They were also given make-up kits from House of Tara and a framed portrait each of their best look.
Omotola is also well known for her other charitable works especially among the youth. She is a United Nations WFP and Amnesty International Ambassador, where she has campaigned to end maternal mortality among women.
