Senator Ibikunle Amosun on Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) on TASUED

Will students currently enrolled in TASUED be allowed to complete their programmes?
Yes, all students, old and newly admitted, will graduate as students of TASUED. However, there will be no new admission from the 2012/13 academic session
Will students and staff of TASUED have to move from the Ijagun campus to Omu immediately?
No. Students and staff are not expected to move campus until after the last set of TASUED students have graduated from the university
Will this lead to job loss?
No. There will be no job loss as both academic and non-academic staff will still be required to run TASUED in transition and the emerging Institute of Education
Will students be able to retrieve academic records (transcripts, references, etc.) about their studentship of TASUED after the merger?
Yes, during the transition period, TASUED will directly handle such requests. After the transition period, the students’ records will be transferred to the emerging Institute of Education, Olabisi Onabanjo University. This is normal practice in such situations.
How will the transition be implemented?
The government will set up a Transition Committee made up of all the stakeholders (i.e. students, staff, parents, members of the local community, etc.) to ensure that the transition is seamlessly done without any negative impact on students and staff career and welfare
How will rationalisation affect the host communities?
The host communities will still have either an Institute of Education (as in Omu) or a campus of the Ogun State Institute of Technology (Saapade, Itori and Ijebu – Igbo). The new institution or campus of restructured institutions will even have higher student carrying capacities with better impact on the host communities. More important, the host communities will have a more deserved pride in hosting campuses of institutions with a better renown and quality of graduates.
Will rationalization indeed lead to better funding and viability of the institutions?
Rationalisation will certainly lead to greater efficiency of resource utilisation. But rationalisation is just one of the tools the government intends to use to re-invigorate the tertiary institutions. It will be complemented by other initiatives of government in line with the Administration’s affordable Qualitative Education. This has been demonstrated in the 2012 Budget with 22% (the highest in the country) committed to Education
