Chelsea striker Fernando Torres was delighted after finally ending his 25-game goal drought with a brace in Chelsea’s 5-2 defeat of Leicester.
Roberto Di Matteo’s side reached the FA Cup semi-finals for the fifth time in the last seven seasons with victory at Stamford Bridge and the Spanish hitman was back to his best against the Championship side.
Torres had gone 25 hours and 41 minutes without scoring before his double helped the six-time winners reach Wembley.
And he told ESPN after the game: “I needed those goals. I’ve been working so hard to get them.
“Maybe the job of a striker is to score goals and if you don’t do it people think you’re playing badly.
“But the support has been here and I feel the confidence of the manager (Roberto Di Matteo) now. We have some important games coming.”
Meanwhile, Gary Cahill, who opened the scoring with a towering header, was pleased with the performance, adding: “We went out and did the job.
“Wins breed confidence, you can see that in our play now – and it’s great to be a part of it.”
