Ondo State Governor Olusegun Mimiko has restated the commitment of his administration to execute more people projects in the state.
Mimiko, a ccording to a statement by his Chief Press Secretary, Mr. Eni Akinsola, on Sunday, gave the assurance while receiving members of the House of Representatives Committee on Environment and the Niger Delta Development Commission in Akure on Friday.
The governor told the team that projects having a direct impact on the people had been given priority, despite their cost and sizes.
According to him, over 300 rural development projects with input from the people of the communities have been completed.
He however appealed to the Federal Government to provide more funds to enable the state to address its ecological challenges.
Mimiko lamented that efforts in the past to assess the ecological fund had been unsuccessful, appealing to the committee to assist the state.
Chairman of the committee, Mr. Uche Ekwunife, commended the Mimiko administration for its achievements.
She said they were in the state to assess the projects of the Ministry of Environment and areas affected by erosion and other ecological problems.
Ekwunife assured the governor of the committee’s support towards alleviating the ecological challenges confronting the state.
Meanwhile, Mimiko has directed local government caretaker committee chairmen across the state to release funds to fight polio, saying it will complement the effort of the state government.
Mimiko gave the directive at opening of the second round of the 2012 National Immunisation-Plus Days at the Basic Health Centre, Isolo in Akure.
He asked the Akure South council boss to release N600,000 while the rest are to provide N500,000 for the successful implementation of the immunisation programme.
He described support for immunisation as an assurance of a healthy, fruitful and productive future generation, adding that machinery had been put in place to ensure that every eligible mother and child takes part in the exercise.
