Lagos stands still for Femi Kuti at 50

IT was celebration time at the new African Shrine on Saturday as Femi Kuti, first son of legendary musician, late Fela Anikulapo Kuti, celebrated his 50th birthday.

The Alausa—Ikeja axis of Lagos experienced a traffic snarl as all routes to African Shrine were blocked due to heavy traffic movement along the area.

The routes linking the Shrine was filled with guests dorning blue dresses, the uniform for the birthday ceremony.

Private security officials prevented uninvited guests from entering the venue of the party.

For the first time, the  usual smoking and drinking that regularly goes on at the Shrine was not allowed.

Guests were mostly politicians, entertainers and expatriates.

Spotted at the party were Orits Wiliki, Yinka Davies, Weird MC, Fatai Rolling Dollar and lots of other artistes.

There were live performance by various artistes and drama troupes.

It was an ambience of peace as guests were seen hugging and exchanging pleasantries.

Femi, who appeared very late into the night to thank the guests, had earlier stated in an interview that he didn't expect to live long to the age of 50.

The celebrated musician, who was twice nominated for the prestigious Grammy Awards, remains one of Africa's most popular musicians.
