Wigan boss Roberto Martinez is preparing for life after Victor Moses by lining up Chicago Fire’s Marco Pappa as his replacement.
The Guatemalan forward would be the first player from
his country to star in the Premier League, if Wigan can secure a work
permit.
Martinez hopes to secure Pappa on a pre-contract deal
but Wigan are prepared to pay a fee to bring him to England before the
end of the year.
The move will be complicated by Guatemala’s low FIFA
ranking however and the Latics will need to make an appeal, according to
the Daily Mirror.
Moses meanwhile is expected to sign for Chelsea, if the Stamford Bridge club are prepared to meet Wigan’s £10m asking price.
The Blues have already had a £4m bid rejected for the 21-year-old but are expected to return with an improved offer.
Wigan chairman Dave Whelan has warned potential suitors that he will not budge on his asking price.
