Three Senior Advocate of Nigeria including a former Attorney-General
and Minister of Justice, Chief Akin Olujimi, have commended the College
of Law of the Afe Babalola Univesity, Ado-Ekiti, Ekiti State.
They said the college had raised the benchmark in the teaching of law in tertiary institutions in the country.
According to a statement made available to our correspondent in
Ado-Ekiti on Friday by ABUAD’s Public Relations Officer, Mr. Ayo
Omotoso, the lawyers spoke in Abuja at a ceremony organised by the
Institute for Government Research and Leadership Technology where the
college was given the award of best college of Law in Nigeria.
The Country-Director of the IGRLT, Moses Essien, stated that the
college was adjudged the best in the country based on the content of its
programmes, quality of its lecturers and state of the art teaching
facilities.
The former attorney-general said his visit to the college revealed
the quantum of facilities and faculty as a world class institution,
adding that it was a testimony to the astuteness of the founder, Aare
Afe Babalola.
He said, “The award as the Best College of Law in Nigeria is
appropriate because the college towers above others. The award is a
catalyst for further development of the law profession.”
Other SANs who hailed the college, Chief Adegboyega Awomolo, Mr.
Lateef Fagbemi and Prof. Akinseye George described the college as the
best in the country, saying the award was a way of encouraging the
founder of the varsity to do more.
Fagbemi said, “The award of the college as the best in Nigeria is the
perfect icing on the cake of the Aare Afe Babalola (SAN): a legal icon
who has spent his immense wealth in boosting law profession and
university education.”
The Senate Committee Chairman on Petroleum Upstream, Mr. Lee Maeba,
while presenting the award to the Provost of the College of Law, Prof.
Smaranda Olarinde, commended the efforts of the founder of the
university, saying his determination to reduce the rot in Nigerian
university education had not gone unnoticed.
The Vice-Chancellor of ABUAD, Prof. Sidi Osho, in her acceptance
speech, said the founder of the university was passionate about
education especially law education.
