Musician in detention over alleged ex-lover’s murder

Ekwe
Popular musician, Ekwe Sample, is being detained at the Homicide Section of the State Criminal Investigation Department, Yaba, for allegedly killing his ex-lover and mother of his child, Ruqqayah Idris.
According to police sources, the deceased was found dead in her car under a bridge around the Mile 2-Badagry Expressway and appeared to have been strangled.
It was learnt that following investigations, Sample, who is also known as stereoman, was arrested last week and has since remained in police custody.
A detective at the SCID, who spoke to PUNCH Metro on the condition of anonymity, said Sample had not been found culpable but was only assisting detectives with investigations.
“It’s just an allegation and the fact that we are detaining him does not mean that he is guilty. I don’t want to pre-empt anything but the outcome of our investigation will be made public,” he said.
PUNCH Metro learnt that some prominent musicians have been visiting the crooner in custody since last week.
When contacted, the Police Public Relations Officer, Mr. Joseph Jaiyeoba, who confirmed the incident to our correspondent on the telephone, said the police were waiting for the autopsy result.
He said, “The deceased’s corpse was recovered by policemen attached to the Trade Fair Division before it was transferred to the SCID.
“The deceased and the suspect had a misunderstanding over their child, who died a while ago. That is why the musician is being held but we are waiting for the autopsy result to determine the cause of death and investigations are ongoing.”
