ACN’ll rescue C’River from slavery — Gov candidate

The governorship candidate of the Action Congress of Nigeria in Cross River State, Pastor Usani Usani, has said his party will rescue the state from the “slavery it found itself.”

During his campaign at Ekureku in Abi Local Government Area on Saturday ahead of February 25 governorship election in the state, Usani said it was time to call the Peoples Democratic Party to account over the way it had run the state since 1999.

The ACN governorship candidate who was represented by his running mate, Mr. David Okon, said, “The deceit of the PDP is too much and this is the right time to call the party’s bluff. We should look into the future and think of our children and their own children. If you don’t want your children to ask you what you were doing when things were going wrong, we should stand up and support change.

“A lot of policies of the present administration are those that impoverish people and bring down our youths. They don’t want us to grow. They are afraid if the youth are empowered, they will rise up and challenge them. Cross River is not poor. It is just that the people at the helms of affairs do not know how to make good use of the resources we are so endowed with. We in the ACN say the state is rich, and will convert the resources for the good of the state.

“We will not be deterred. We will show them that power comes from God, and when we get there, we will serve you well. Do not sell your votes. Do not mortgage your future.”

The leader of the ACN in the central senatorial district, Mr. Vincent Asor, said, “The time for change has come and it is now. ACN has the answer. We bring the template of the ACN which has been working in states in the West to you.”

He, however, urged the party’s supporters to desist from violence.

He said, “We should show love and live in peace with all. We should not fight among ourselves due to differences in parties. Let us have peace. The better party will win.”

Chairman of the ACN campaign organisation, Dr. Ntete Bassey, urged the people to vote for them “for good things to come.”

Also, the party’s woman leader in the state, Mrs. Edema Irom, urged the electorate, especially the women, not to sell their votes.
