Determined to ensure a smooth merger of Tai Solarin University of Education (TASUED) with the Faculty of Education of the Olabisi Onabanjo University, the Ogun State government has set up a committee to ensure effective implementation.
The Secretary to the State Government, Mr Taiwo Adeoluwa, disclosed this on Monday, in his office, at a meeting held with the executive members of TASUED Students Union and leaders of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS).
According to him, the committee had relevant stakeholders in the education sector and was saddled with the responsibility of ensuring no student or staff of the institution is negatively affected by the decision to merge the institution.
Dispelling rumours doing the rounds in some quarters that TASUED was scrapped, Mr Adeoluwa said this was not true, saying it was only restructuring of a sort to conform with the statute that established it and also to restore its lost glory.
“TASUED is not scrapped, but restructured to conform with the law that established it,” he said.
The Public Relations Officer of NANS, Mr Clement Oluwasegun said the students, as stakeholders, would cooperate with the government to ensure that issues generated from the merger were resolved amicably.
Also in attendance at the meeting were the state Commissioner for Science and Technology, Mr Segun Odubela and the Special Adviser to the Governor on Education, Dr Tunji Abimbola
