AHEAD
of the 2014 governorship election in Ekiti State, nine governorship
aspirants from the Southern senatorial district in the state have agreed
to work together and ensure that the district produced the next
governor of the state.
An informed source within the state chapter of the Peoples Democratic
Party (PDP) made this known in a telephone interview with Nigerian
Tribune, on Wednesday.
The agreement was apparently in a bid to stop the speculated
governorship ambitions of both the Police Affairs Minister, Navy Captain
Caleb Olubolade (retd) and former Governor Ayodele Fayose in 2014.
Olubolade and Fayose are from the central senatorial district which
produced the governor that ruled the state between 1999 and 2007.
To drive home their resolve to clinch the governorship seat, the
source, who spoke strictly on the condition of anonymity, said the nine
aspirants met on Saturday, under the auspices of the Ekiti South
Emancipation Agenda (EKSEA).
According to him, the aspirants involved in the agenda included
three  former deputy governors in the state, Chief Abiodun Aluko,
(Chief) Mrs Abiodun Olujimi and Chief Bisi Omoyeni.
Others, he said, included Prince Dayo Adeyeye, Dr Kunle Folayan,
Senator Gbenga  Aluko, Captain Ajayi (retd), Chief Ropo Ogunbolude and
Mr Bimbo Owolabi.
The last Saturday meeting was said to have been attended by Aluko,
Folayan and Captain Ajayi while Olujimi, Adeyeye, Senator Aluko and
Omoyeni sent representatives and the duo of Ogunbolude and Owolabi sent
apologies and promised to attend the next meeting.
Confirming the meeting, Honourable Bunmi Olugbade, the coordinator of
the group, said it was the resolve of the entire six local councils in
the south senatorial district that the next governor of Ekiti State must
 come from the zone.
“The main agenda is for the south senatorial district to produce the
next governor of the state and there is no negotiation about that.”
