Ondo gov race: PDP may support LP •As Agunloye’s aide, others defect to LP

There are strong indications that the Ondo State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) may be asked not to field any candidate for the state governorship election later this year.
Sunday Tribune has been reliably informed that the PDP may be asked to support the ruling Labour Party and its candidate, Governor Olusegun Mimiko, to ensure that the opposition Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) does not add the Sunshine State to its feather of victory.
A source close to the presidency  from the South-South geo-political zone disclosed this in an exclusive chat with the  Sunday  Tribune in Lagos recently.
He expressed displeasure at the betrayal of confidence the President  reposed in a former governor in the South-West region, especially concerning how he was said to have stage-managed the protests and demonstrations against oil subsidy removal recently, despite being informed of the decision by the President on two occasions.
“I do not know the kind of politics he (the former governor)  plays. When he came to me for discussions and we agreed on something, he went back to do contrary to our agreement. This is politics without integrity.
“We are determined to ensure that Ondo does not go to the ACN, the Labour Party and  Mimiko must win. We must not allow a repeat of what happened in Ogun and Oyo States.
“If the PDP and Ladoja had worked together and Gbenga Daniel, Obasanjo had also worked together would ACN have won in those states? And so we must not allow this to happen again.”
However, the PDP Transition Committee chairman in the state, Mr Ebenezer Alabi, said nothing would prevent the party from presenting a gubernatorial candidate in the election later this year.
He explained those who are interested in Mimiko’s job had already started signifying intention to contest in the election, adding that nothing could stop them from going ahead.
Meanwhile, the Labour Party in Ondo State increased in Population at the weekend  when the personal assistant to Dr Olu Agunloye, a gubernatorial aspirant of the Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) in the state, Hon. Bolaji Tanimola and some  prominent politicians from Akoko North West Local Government Area of the State  defected to the ruling  Party at Arigidi-Akoko.
Other defectors included Chief (Mrs) Tinuade Komolafe (PDP), Hon. Oloruntoba Olugbenga (ACN), Hon. Mayowa Olugbogi (ACN), Hon. Francis Aderopo (PDP), Hon Dele Oloba (PDP), Mr Are Johnson (ACN), Mr Ropo Alujo (youth secretary PDP), Mrs Deborah Agunbiade (Iyaloja Arigidi PDP) and Mr Ajulo Olanrewaju (PDP).
