The Oyo State Governor, Abiola Ajimobi, has promised to insure journalists in the state in order to cushion the effect of the hazards associated with their job.
The governor made the pledge following a proposal presented to him by the president of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, Mallam Garba Mohammed, who led national and state council leaders of the union on a visit to the governor on Wednesday.
He said the responsibility of information gathering and dissemination presented some challenges to journalists, especially in a clime like Nigeria. He said his administration, as a media-friendly government, would always support journalism and its practitioners because they are a crucial partner in societal development.
