Edo PDP gov primary: 5 aspirants cleared

FIVE Edo State Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship aspirants, who picked the expression of interest and nomination forms were on Monday cleared to contest the February 25 governorship primary of the party in the state.
The aspirants’ clearance followed their screening, which took place in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, by a committee set up by the national leadership of the party for that purpose.
The aspirants are a former governor of the state, Professor Oserheimen Osunbor; Mr Kenneth Imansuangbon; a former presidential aide, Professor Julius Ihonvbere; a former Commander, Army Finance Corps, General Charles Airhiavbere (retd) and a former majority leader of the state House of Assembly, Mr Mathew Iduoriyekemwen.
The five aspirants’ clearance came as the Edo State chairman of the PDP, Chief Dan Orbih, declared on Monday that any of the aspirants that emerged as the party’s candidate after the party’s primary was capable of defeating Governor Adams Oshiomhole of the Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) in the forthcoming July 14, 2012 governorship election in the state.
Orbih, who spoke while rounding off the party’s sensitisation and mobilisation tour of the 192 political wards in the state in Oredo Local Government Area of the state, assured that a PDP administration in the state would compensate all whose houses were illegally destroyed by the ACN administration.
“We have the best candidates for the election. We are ready. The people of Edo State are tired of over taxation, demolition and they will speak on July 14. We have assured our aspirants of free and fair primary and any of them who makes the primaries will defeat Oshiomhole.”
