Following the postponement of the local government election in Ekiti State, the state government has dissolved the caretaker committees in the 16 council areas of the state. The postponement of the election earlier billed for last Saturday was occasioned by an Ado Ekiti High Court judgment last Thursday, which sacked five members of the state's Independent Electoral Commission (EKSIEC) for not being independent.
The state government, EKSIEC and the five affected members had on Friday, served notice of appeal of the judgment. The councils caretaker committee members, who had spent barely two months in office, were given the boot at the weekend. Others had not been appointed in their place.
