The deputy governor of Ekiti State, Mrs. Funmi Olayinka, has charged parents, teachers and other stakeholders in the education sector to partner with the government in its efforts to redeem the dwindling fortune of education in the country.
Mrs. Olayinka gave the charge while receiving the seven-man Federal Government visitation panel to the Federal Polytechnic, Ado Ekiti, set up to look into the operations and activities of the 21 federal polytechnics in the country, in her office.
Olayinka stressed the need for all stakeholders, particularly teachers and parents to re-unite and speak with one voice on children education, saying “the government of Governor Kayode Fayemi considers every Federal Government institution set up in the state as its baby because it believes that these organisations are established in the state to enhance development and bring federal presence nearer to the grassroots.”
According to the Deputy Governor, “education is a legacy that the state is working hard to sustain and promote. Laptop computers recently distributed to all teachers and students of secondary schools in the state is a testimony to the seriousness of this administration to expose them to global trends which would develop them and make them compete fairly and be at par with their colleagues anywhere in the world.”
Chairman of the panel, Professor Richard Anao in his speech, said the panel was not a probing one, but was set up by the Federal Government to look into the operations and activities of the 21 Federal Polytechnics and colleges of education in the country between 2004-2011.
Professor Anao said the panel was part of Federal Government’s transformation agenda to revamp the education sector and make sure that products of Nigeria educational institutions meet world class standard.
Speaking earlier, the Rector of the Federal Polytechnic, Ado-Ekiti, Mrs. Taiwo Akande thanked the state government for its cooperation and assistance to the institution, particularly for the bus that was recently given to the Polytechnic and for the renovation of the road leading to the school.
