Kwara varsity directs students to proceed on short break

The authorities of Kwara State University, Malete, have directed all students of the university to proceed on a short break.

A statement signed by the registrar of the institution, Mrs Modupe Akinrinmade, and made available to journalists in Ilorin, on Wednesday, advised students to vacate their hostels latest by 2 p.m. on Wednesday, May 2, adding that resumption date would be communicated later.

Nigerian Tribune gathered that the management of the institution closed down the school, following protest by some students who were barred from writing the Rain Semester examination due to their failure to pay registration fee as at when due.

The management, in a statement where it declared its decision to bar the yet-to-be registered students from writing the examination, noted that apart from giving sufficient time for registration of courses, late registration period was extended four times, following appeals from students to enable those who could not to do so.

It also noted that, in spite of the grace of extension of late registration period four times “some students still did not register.”

The management, in the statement signed by the university’s director of relations, Isiaka Aliagan, explained that the closure of registration was “to guide against conflicting reports on students’ registration status.” as some students’ names were not captured in the registration portal last semester because either they did not register or waited till the portal was closed to registration before making attempt to register.”
