Awo’s educational policy faultless -Fashola

LAGOS State governor, Mr Babatunde Fashola, has accused those paying lip service to the educational policy of the sage, Chief Obafemi Awolowo, saying that they are hypocrites.
Speaking on “The role of higher education in the development of knowledge economy or a knowledge–based economy in federal democracy,” at the first distinguished lecture preceding the second graduation of Osun State University, Fashola said rather than paying lip service to the policy, there should be an improvement on it.
According to him, “Chief Awolowo’s educational policy, in my view, was faultless.”
He said today, thanks to efforts of Chief Awolowo and his Action Group, mass illiteracy is no longer the challenge that it was.
“We must improve on the policy of  Awolowo, hold its essential principles and renew but not re-invent his innovative wheel, if his legacy for his region and his dream for the country are to be fulfilled,” he said.
Fashola frowned on the educational system prevalent in most higher institutions, which could not improve the economy, while he also complained about amount earmarked for educational system, saying that it was insignificant compared with other developed countries.
