Ekiti’ll reject PDP in a thousand elections, says Commissioner

Ekiti State Commissioner for Information and Civic Orientation  Funminiyi Afuye yesterday said the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) would lose elections in the state “a thousand times.”
Afuye said it is ridiculous that “after bruising the collective worth of the people for almost seven years, PDP and its legion of befuddled hirelings still think they can deceive the people by falsifying records and spreading lies”.
Noting that “elections in Ekiti State would no longer be won on a platter of deceit and coercion for which the PDP has is renown”, Afuye said the Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) would continue to win elections in the state on the basis of “probity, accountability and performance.”
The commissioner was reacting to the allegation of the PDP that the State Government has wasted “over N200 billion allocations from the Federal Government in the last 18 months with no concrete achievement.”
PDP state Chairman Mr. Makanjuola Ogundipe told  reporters yesterday in Ado-Ekiti, the state capital, that the party would “reclaim the state in the next governorship election.
Makanjuola accused the Governor Kayode Fayemi-led administration of “abysmal performance” in the last few months.
Afuye said it is necessary to “continually rebut the asinine tantrums and unfounded constructs of the PDP word-shop, if only to save the public from catching the bug.”
The commissioner said only the blind will accuse Fayemi of ineptitude and poor performance, in view of the performance of his administration.
He said: “Today in Ekiti State, people no longer talk of hopes; they are talking of actualities, which are evident in all sectors.
“He who accuses must equally prove; so I challenge the PDP Chairman, who was railroaded  to lead an utterly directionless party, to be honourable enough to provide the proofs to substantiate his claims with facts and figures.
“We would not have dignified him with any response, but for the need to tell the truth, which remains the credo of the party and the back on which the Fayemi-government essentially rode.
“The Fayemi-led administration is a very prudent one,  which has nothing to hide.
“As can be ascertained by those who desire, all state government contracts are there on the internet with the costs at which they were awarded.
“The transparent openness of this administration is borne on the fact that government holds the reins of governance in trust for the people and people must consequently remain the force and spirit behind every pronouncement by any public officer and every project awarded by the state.
“That was why the Freedom of Information Law was domesticated for people like the PDP Chairman and his cohorts to be able to know what is happening in government, rather than making unfounded allegations.
“Fayemi’s administration has distinguished itself  by restructuring the education system, introducing the social security system for the elderly, awarding several road projects across the state, revamping the Ikogosi Warm Spring and various free health missions.
“The beginning of PDP’s failure in Ekiti has just begun. Its members would soon be counting their defeat by the ACN in decades, not just in units of years.”
