Edo State governor, Adams Oshiomhole on Friday inaugurated a 2,500-metre capacity water borehole drilling rig at Agbede, in Etsako West Local Government Area of the state, even as he promised to use the state resources for the people’s welfare.
Oshiomhole said with the new borehole, no part of the state would be left without potable water.
The governor, who said it was his business to make things happen and not to lament, added that he had given a directive that a borehole with an overhead tank be located at the heart of the city, from where the water would be distributed to other parts of the town.
He said, “From there it can be distributed to the North, East, South and West of Agbede, and that way, everybody will have water.
“When they finish distributing the water, and those who can afford it will link it to their houses, the drilling rig will move to Avwain, Jagbe and Aviele, to provide water for those communities. We want to do it quickly before the rain starts. Today, we are demonstrating that these communities will now have water.”
Oshiomhole, who noted that being a governor was no big deal, said “it is a big honour that people assembled and asked you to be entrusted with their resources.”
“That is why today, I am excited and I move with confidence and I talk with authority because in 2007 when the opposition said to Edo people, there is no money in this land, and during my campaign then I said there is money in this land. What they lacked was the will and discipline to know the difference between private pocket and public welfare.”
Earlier, the Oba of Agbede, Alhaji Momoh Momodu thanked the governor for keeping to his promise.
Momodu, said the Ayuele clan would vote for Oshiomhole, during the forthcoming governorship election in the state.
He later presented him with a copy of the Quran, praying mat and beads, after which he offered prayers for the governor.
