Sola Allyson: Poetic lyrics of a songbird

Olusola
After the release of her maiden album titled, Eji Owuro in 2003, Sola Allyson Obaniyi has maintained a musical tempo, which continually thrills her numerous fans, writes GBENGA ADENIJI
In 2003 when Sola Allyson Obaniyi hit the nation’s musical terrain with her maiden album, Eji Owuro, it instantly shot her into prominence. Many did not expect anything less, especially as it is a love song advocating sincerity in relationship. And the captivating voice behind the love poem keeps many listeners spellbound.  Like the morning dew she likens love, the song comes afresh each time one listens to it.
But the interesting story of the song is that the singer did not set out to make it an album. It was initially meant to be a soundtrack for a movie which was being handled by producer, Ola Ibironke.
Since the album graced the music shelves, Sola Allyson as she is known has leaped into fame from obscurity. In fact, many prefer to call her Eji Owuro. She may probably admit that Eji OwuroGbeje F’ori released in 2005, Ire in 2007, Imoore in 2009 and year 2012 witnessed the coming of Adun. was the conduit through which providence charted the course of her musical direction.  She later gave her fans more to relish in
After the album, does she still love songs? The graduate of Music from The Polytechnic Ibadan, who specialised in Voice and Performance, explains that she records albums based on what she receives from above.  She adds that there are precise messages in each of her albums for the listeners.
Allyson says, ‘‘However, I have other albums that have the theme of love. My third album, Ire and my present one, Adun have tracks on love, but in different forms.’’
The singer notes that her inspiration comes from God including her personal experiences directly and indirectly, her perception of God, her religion, others people’s experiences, and all that  life itself entails.
Though her music appeals to many regardless of age, sex or race, Allyson prefers to define herself and brand of music thus, ‘‘I do traditional arts music. My audience cuts across all classes and age groups. I am everything I am called by others who take time to listen beyond the sound of my music. I am just expressing the things I have on my inside which are from above. I am a singer, who uses the philosophy of my environment in a poetic way to pass across the message I have for them in a way that the particular segment of my world I am sent to will understand.’’
As one who explores love themes richly in her music, she shows that much in her disclosure that she is married to one of the best men on earth and the union is blessed with children.
Taking stock of her musical career amid the challenges in the industry, the musician states that the grace of God has kept him relevant till date.
Allyson notes that since she believes and is true in what she is called to preach, help will not elude her.
She says, ‘‘I believe I am doing what I am sent to do and help will not elude me, in all ways. The purpose of my music is to draw the listener closer to the Source of all good things, God, from whom the whole world is drifting. And until mankind returns “home”, solution to our  challenges will continue to be elusive.”
The singer who is based in Ibadan, Oyo State, also says her songs bring listeners to the consciousness of God and enchants them to truly worship Him.
