The celebration of the 60th birthday of the Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) National Leader, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, begins today in Lagos with a Cultural Night organised by the Lagos State Council of Arts and Culture at Muson Centre, Onikan.
The event, to be witnessed by eminent Nigerians, kicks off at 6.30pm, according to a statement by the Planning Committee.
On Sunday, a Health Walk in honour of the celebrator will hold from 7 am. Take-off point for participants is the Oando Service Station, Awolowo Road, Ikoyi. The walk will terminate at the City Hall, Onikan. During the exercise, free health screening and treatment would be undertaken by medical experts. The week-long programme continues next week.
Eminent Nigerians have congratulated the former Lagos State governor on the occasion of his birthday. The leaders of ACN, Ikorodu Division, led by Prince Abiodun Ogunleye, described him as a worthy leader and consummate politician, who had served his state and country well.
Efon-Alaaye, Ekiti State ACN leader, High Chief Alake Erungbua, eulogised  Tinubu’s virtues, saying that he is a blessing to Nigeria. He said: “At 60, it is gratifying that Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu has continued to forge ahead in his productive, progressive service to the country. For generations, our children and their offspring would be told the beautiful story of how stolen mandates were retrieved from electoral marauders and the name of Asiwaju will continue to ring bell”.
Former Secretary to Lagos State Government Asiwaju Olorunfunmi Basorun described Tinubu as a consistent, forthright and democratic  leader worthy of pride, adding that he has been leading the way in raising the fundamental questions of our time in post-Awolowo era.
House of Representatives member  Moruf Akinderu-Fatai (Oshodi/Isolo) prayed for long life for Tinubu, who he described as a servant of the people. He said Lagosians owe the grassroots development being recorded to the creation of additional local councils by the former governor.
Akinderu-Fatai said: “It is gratifying that Asiwaju Tinubu is mentoring many young politicians by promoting the party policy of giving positions of leadership and responsibility to the youths. Many youths who have risen to positions of honour and service owe their ascendancy to his principled position on political modeling, life moulding and gerontocratic monitoring. I wish him many happy returns of the year”.
Former Secretary of Alliance for Democracy (AD) in Lagos, Mr. Lanre Ogunyemi, who is now a state legislator, praised Tinubu’s mobilisation prowess, political sagacity and power of organisation, adding that he is “a super man of ideas”. He added: “I learnt a lot from him when he was governor and party leader in AD. He is a firm believer in principle and he is committed to the welfare of the common man”.
Former Lagos State Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs Prince Rotimi Agunsoye described Tinubu as a detribalised Nigerian who believe in extending tentacles of influence and spreading frontiers of cooperation with people across the geo-political zones.
He added: “His administration was a model in Lagos State. he is a financial surgeon, a seasoned administrator, a man of strong will and  champion of the oppressed. It is interesting that his successor, Mr. Babatunde Fashola is building on his feats”.
Apapa ACN leader Alhaji Moshood Tijani said: “I join other well wishers in congratulating Asiwaju Bola Tinubu on the occasion of his 60th birthday. It is my prayer that God will continue to sustain him as he continues to lead our party to greater success in the foreseeable future”.
